Treatment

Treatment programs must consider the individual and any co-occurring or co-existing mental health needs of youth with substance disorders. Flexibility, availability, and treatment matching a client’s needs to available services are the most effective approach. Evidence-based practices for youth include protocols that are cognitive-behavioral and behavioral, family-oriented, and motivational. Treatment should emphasize the acquisitions of new abilities and skills to deal with obstacles and should also include ongoing mental health services, assessments, medication management, and family involvement.

The Hal. S. Marchman Alcohol and other Drug Service Act of 1993, also known as the “Marchman Act,” is a legislative act that provides intervention, temporary detention, and emergency assistance for individuals requiring substance abuse evaluation and treatment in the state of Florida.
