Charlotte County Public School District proudly graduated their first class of “School Guardians” in July of 2024. School Guardians began their first school year in the 2024-2025 School Year as “armed security”. Each School Guardian graduated an extensive training program provided by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. In addition to keeping our schools secured throughout the day and assisting in maintaining compliance with guidelines established by the State of Florida’s Office of Safe Schools, School Guardians are highly trained in responding to Active Assailant emergency situations.
The Charlotte County Public School District is always enhancing it’s efforts to cease the use of tobacco or e-cigarette products on its campuses. We have established a “Vape Task Force” and installed Vape Detection Devices within all secondary school locations. Furthermore, in 2024, with the assistance of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, we have added a Drug/Vape detection K-9 program to our schools. K-9 “Mila” conducts non-intrusive sniffs of classrooms, parking lots and bathrooms each week on our school campuses. Creating a safe and healthy environment for students to learn is our primary goal.

Reunification:
In the event of an emergency at or near a school location, there may be a need to relocate students to a pre-determined “Reunification Site”. The Charlotte County Public School District is trained and prepared to conduct this operation if necessary.
It is important for all parents and guardians to understand the following:
1. The Charlotte County Public School District, along with Emergency Services will be communicating to you through;
a. Parent Square;
b. All social media sources CCPS currently utilizes; and
c. Local media outlets.
2. Please do not respond to your students location. This will only cause traffic delays and interfere with emergency responders. Furthermore, your student will likely already have been transported to the pre-determined Reunification site.
3. The Charlotte County Public School District will communicate with you regarding the incident and provide clear and concise directions to ensure you are reunited with your student as soon as it is safe to do so. Please understand, this is a time-consuming process and patience and understanding is of the upmost importance.
Since the tragedy at Parkland, Charlotte County Public Schools has implemented a “Single Point of Entry” concept with all our school campuses. This has been identified as a “Best Practice” by the Florida Department of Education.
When you visit our schools all the gates on the school campuses will be locked and will require front office staff to screen all visitors via video communication before they are allowed entry into the school parking lots. The front doors of every school will be locked during the school day to provide an extra measure of security for our students and staff. They will require front office staff to screen all visitors via video communication device before they are allowed entry into the school building.
The procedure for entering each school will require the following steps to be completed:
The procedures listed above may at times require visitors to have to wait a little longer to gain access into our schools. However, the safety of the students and staff will always be our number one focus. We appreciate your support and understanding of these safety measures. Please contact your student’s principal with any questions or concerns
The Charlotte County Public School District is dedicated to ensuring the protection of all students, staff, and visitors while attending or visiting our schools.
Department leadership and personnel understand the critical importance of fostering a secure environment that is conducive to learning. To that end, the Security Department maintains a highly trained and professional security team that patrols school premises, monitors security systems, and provides a visible deterrent to unwanted and threatening behavior. Our security personnel undergo rigorous background checks and receive ongoing training to respond to the ever-changing scope of security challenges effectively.
The Security Department consists of over 25 security professionals who all work tirelessly to prevent and respond to potential security threats and incidents. In addition, the Security Department collaborates with district and school administrators, local law enforcement, state officials, and other stakeholders to implement its comprehensive security protocols.
The administrative security team implements protocols and coordinates security resources for all our District properties. Their primary focus is to ensure the safety and security of personnel, visitors, and assets during routine operations and high-profile events.
Department management conducts routine and comprehensive security assessments of all District facilities throughout the year to identify vulnerabilities and subsequently develop tailored response plans, ultimately prioritizing safety education and awareness to empower students, staff, and parents with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond accordingly in various situations.
The FDLE Sexual Offenders and Predators Search, is a program school administrators use regularly to check the sexual predator database to identify persons whose access to the school or school activities should be limited and/or supervised, and to be aware of sexual predators in the school zone.
Student CrimeStoppers, a program that has been in our school system for many years, continues to be an effective way for students to report crime anonymously and take an active role in school safety.
